Charity / Impact

978 Finance is determined to not only give back to the communities it operates within but also to support worthy causes on an international level. We do this by arranging company charity events supporting local causes and through our partnership with B1G1 allowing us to give globally. Charity has always been close to our Managing Director Simon’s heart, he started doing youth work when he was just 16 for North Yorkshire County Council before working for a youth centre in Stockton-on-Tees.

After moving to Lancashire, he integrated into the community by helping with restoration of The Winter Gardens Theatre on Morecambe Promenade and also helped to organise the ‘World’s Biggest Street Party’ on the sea front. Following this, he volunteered with Leeds Children’s Charity for two seasons at their holiday centre in Grange Over Sands.

Read below how working with 978 Finance means you will be supporting global charities

Making a lasting impact in the local area…

In order for Simon to become more involved with his community and to make a lasting impact, he took on the role of Chair for the ‘West End Million’ project for three years. The ‘West End Million’ is a national lottery funded initiative designed to support 150 of the most impoverished areas in the country. Simon helped to form the residents steering committee, create a plan and deliver the initial phases of the 10-year project.

He wants to bring this charitable mindset into 978 Finance by offering a paid voluntary work scheme and partnering with B1G1 – Business for Good in order to give back to his employees chosen causes as the business profits and completing regular charity events in order to raise money for local organisations.

Charity Work

Charity Skydive 2020

On Sunday 27th September 2020, the 978 Finance team took part in a skydive for their respective chosen charities. MD Simon chose More Music in Morecambe, a local charity that delivers community workshops in music and the arts whilst Ops Manager Nikki opted to jump for Team Reece to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Elisha from sister company 978 Asset Management chose to take the leap for Defying Dementia, which raises funds to facilitate research into Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative brain disease.

The team absolutely smashed both the skydive and their targets. Altogether they raised £2,405 across their chosen charities which is an absolutely fantastic result for these great causes. Well done Simon, Nikki and Elisha and a big thank you to everyone that shared and donated, we couldn’t have done it without you!

We’re all geared up and ready to go for our next fundraising event! Any suggestions about what we could do this time?

The team at 978 Finance have decided to support one of Morecambe Bay’s oldest venues and sponsor a seat at the fantastic Winter Gardens! Once known as the Victoria Pavilion, the Winter Gardens opened in 1897 and could seat over 2,000 people. The venue closed for some years in the late seventies and was registered as a charity in 1997. The Friends of the Winter Gardens are responsible for keeping the building and its memories alive and although they’ve been in existence for over three decades, it wasn’t until February 2006, that the friends established the Morecambe Winter Gardens Preservation Trust to purchase from the then owners Barnfield Construction. The friends had one aim for the building & that is to keep the fire burning at one of Morecambe’s brightest venues.

We are really happy to be supporting this local charity! If you’d like to do the same and have your business sponsor a seat, click here.
